A Proposal for Human Development to be an Allied Science within the College of Health
By Dr Brendan J Gomez, Academic Leader of Human Development
An increased investment in health by various governments across the globe, including New Zealand, provides for increased opportunities for research grant funding that will provide multiple benefits for Massey, from increased research output, to increased staffing, and a higher profile of Massey as a leading health-focused institution within the Kiwi society. This includes access to funds from The World Health Organization (WHO), The Health Ministry, non-profit health organizations and other international sources of funding.
The interdisciplinary field of human development allows for it to contribute as a key player in various colleges from humanities, to business and of courses its contribution within the current College of Education. The College of Health will provide a platform that allows for human development the scope and potential it has to contribute at a far greater extent to the health and wellbeing of New Zealanders, and the larger Asia-Pacific community.
